12th International Festival "The Sun of Africa on the Don"

On May 25, 1963, at the 1st Conference of African Governments in Addis Ababa (Ethiopia), the intergovernmental Organization of African Unity was created, known today under the new name of the African Union.

In honor of this event, the UN designated May, 25 as an international holiday - Africa Day.

In honor of this holiday, as well as to strengthen the traditions of interethnic friendship in the Don, mutual enrichment of youth through familiarization with the culture and traditions of other peoples and to promote the adaptation and integration of children from African countries into the international student family of universities in Rostov-on-Don and Rostov Region, RSUE organized the First International Student Festival "The Sun of Africa on the Don" in 2009. In 2024, it was held for the 12th time.

The competition program involved 10 applicants: 5 girls and 5 boys who study at RSUE, Southern Federal University, Don State Technical University, Rostov State Medical University, who came to Russia from Angola, Guinea-Bissau, Egypt, Liberia, Cameroon, Côte d’Ivoire, Nigeria, Sierra Leone. The participants introduced themselves, their country and culture, and demonstrated their talents in the competitions "Business Card", "Creative Number", "Video Interview", "Defile in Evening Dresses and Suits". Students of RSUE took:

• the 1st place in the nomination Mister Charm 2024 – Sottan Ago Steve Emmanuel, RSUE, Cote d'Ivoire, Miss Charm 2024 – Jose Jemima Pedro, Rostov State Medical University, Angola.
• 5th place in the nomination Mister Smile 2024 – Atris Mohammed Ahmed Mohamed, SFedU, Egypt, Miss Smile 2024 – Soares Kassama Katia, RSUE, Guinea-Bissau.
