The Delegation of the Confucius Institute of the Kalmyk State University, headed by its Director, Prof. Hugjiltu Wu, visited our university on November 7th, 2013. The main aim of the visit was to discuss possibilities of cooperation between our institutions in the field of studying of Chinese language by Russian students.
Due to the rapid growth of Chinese economy and its role in the world, expansion of Russian-Chinese bilateral relations and improvement of partnership in the Asia-Pacific region, the interest to Chinese language among Russian students is constantly growing. And RSUE is one of the most advanced universities in this field in the South of Russia: for more than 7 years our Faculty of Linguistics and Journalism is realizing a Specialist Program "Foreign Regional Studies" with major in Eastern Asia (China, Korea and Japan). Students of this Program also study the language of one of these countries. Moreover, in the nearest time Chinese is to become a second foreign language that can be chosen by our students, studying at Bachelor Program in Economics.
The other direction of cooperation is collaboration with Chinese universities. Now annually several of our students in "Foreign Regional Studies" have internships in China, however this is more an individual practice rather than a real mobility. RSUE's senior management is interested in creation of long-term cooperation with Chinese institutions and one of such partners might become the Inner Mongolian University, whose President is Prof. Hugjiltu Wu.
Recently RSUE was visited by Dr. Luc Baumstark, the Dean of the Faculty of Economics and Management of Lumière University Lyon 2 - the leading university in social and economic sciences of the second largest French city. The main goal of this visit was to develop the concept of bilateral relations between our universities which has been launched back in 2012 with the signing of Agreement of Academic and Scientific Relations.
The first stage of partner activities included student and academic mobility. Within a year a group of RSUE students had a language and study internship, a group of academic and management staff visited a couple of seminars and courses on advanced training, three students participated in a one-year student mobility exchange programme in Lyon.
This positive experience showed that the universities can continue with more complicated and mature activities, so the agenda of the Meeting in Rostov included discussion of the concept of Joint Master Programs in Economics and Management. Such kind of programs require good language skills from their participants, including our current and future undergraduate students. These are to be achieved via a range of new short-time mobility programs and institutional projects, e.g. Lumière University Lyon 2 and the Consulate of the Russian Federation in Lyon supported RSUE’s initiative to create a platform for studying Russian language in Lyon.
On September 19-21 2013, Rostov State University Economics together with its strategic partner Donetsk National University held in Rostov-on-don the XI International Conference «Problems and Prospects of Cooperation Development Between Countries of South-Eastern Europe within Context of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation». The main topics that were discussed during the conference in Rostov were dedicated to the problems and challenges of socio-economic development of the region, the processes of integration and cross-border cooperation, prospects and directions of cooperation within the region and with the third countries. The dialogue between the academics was more than open and fruitful.
One of the related topics of the conference was the joint work of universities of the Euroregion «Donbass»; senior management of RSUE and Donetsk National University discussed this project and worked out its common concept.
The General Assembly of the Visegrad University Association gathered 50 representatives of universities from 22 countries at the Mendel University in Brno, Czech Republic, on 13-14 September 2013. RSUE, as one of the founders of the Association back in 2011, was represented the Rector of our University – Professor Adam Albekov.
The General Assembly traditionally critically evaluates the total period of the previous activities of the Association and makes strategic decisions on Association’s operation and development for future periods.
Association activity in 2013 was fruitful: there were held two major scientific forums for academics and post-graduate students, one international summer school for students, were issued two joint monographs, was launched the new scientific journal of the Association on Bioeconomy and Sustainable Development.
